Senator Rosalyn R. Dance Announces Re-Election Bid; Cites Progressive Accomplishments
Petersburg- Senator Rosalyn R. Dance, a Democrat representing district 16, today announced her candidacy for re-election to the State Senate. Senator Dance was first elected to the Senate of Virginia in a special election in 2014, succeeding Senator Henry Marsh and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2015.
Senator Dance said, “Since the beginning of my public service, I have always strived to make a difference, to put my constituents first, to improve their lives and to govern with our values and principles. All Virginians deserve access to affordable health care and I am proud we expanded Medicaid that provided needed health care access for many constituents across the 16th senatorial district.
“Just this past Session, I introduced legislation to raise the minimum wage, make voting easier, increase the number of school counselors in each school, increase affordable housing and improve public housing communities, pass the ERA, protect Virginians from the environmental hazard of coal ash and other legislation to move Virginia forward.
“While this has been a difficult General Assembly Session, with Virginia government officials struggling and many citizens feeling hurt and disillusioned, I have worked hard to focus on improving lives and situations. The best way to remedy the past is to create a better, stronger future.” Senator Dance concluded by saying, “I promise my constituents that my focus will be on them. The citizens should not be subjected to embarrassing situations or unnecessary distractions.” The Democratic Primary will take place on June 11th.
